Growing up, my mom always braided my hair or had it in some clean cut style, something everyone likes to call “protective” styles now. Also she waited a long time to put perms in my hair, and even then she’d only put a perm in once a year and that was like after summer right before the first day of school. She’d only put the “cream crack” at the roots of my hair and let my thick ass hair do as it pleased lol. After a while when I started doing my own hair, I stopped using perms completely. It wasn’t because I wanted to go “natural” or for any political reason lol, I just always got tired of my hair being straight… and I was never down for tedious hours under a dryer and excessive heat burning my scalp and neck. BORING and ANNOYING. Being the low-maintence girl that I am and the one who always was in the water, in the hot weather etc (hey I’m costa rican and Bajan) I just stopped using heat in my hair. I took it back to when I was younger with a more sophisticated approach, braids, buns, twist outs, bantu knots, etc. It wasn’t easy though, I did have to learn how to work with my hair but being the little geek I am I enjoyed trying new things and learning as much as I could. Now I love my thick curly hair. I don’t care who doesn’t love it, just don’t touch it lol. It’s who I am and I there’s no changing that.
As far as the whole “natural” trend that’s going on right now, and yes I’d like to call it a trend because I feel like many people just want the natural look, and many people even want the exotic curly hair that in all honesty they just might not have. BUT that’s completely fine.. everyone’s hair is different and if you’re going natural have some personal reason for it, not just because everyone’s doing it. Despite one’s race or ethnicity, I think it’s important to be aware of what’s going in your hair (sulfates, mineral oils, synthetic ingredients), just like with the food you consume.
Anyways,
I tend to get bored easily so I don’t always like to keep the same hair style but with this cold weather and my busy schedule my twists have been in for about 2 weeks and I’m not complaining at all lol.

this was 2 in the morning, taking sexy pictures of myself in a tom and jerry tshirt. yeah i know SCANDALOUS lol :)
oH yeah I straightened my hair. I haven’t done that is SOOOOO long.
My hair length surprised some people because when I keep my hair natural it looks so much shorter.
But by reducing heat my hair has been healthier :)
